Matthew Brown, Class of 2024

Matthew Brown, ‘24 , is an investigative reporter at Open Vallejo, where he covers police accountability, corruption and public safety. Before joining Open Vallejo, Matthew was a reporter for the Vallejo Times-Herald, where he focused on investigative and city government news. His reporting exposed critical issues such as Vallejo’s failure to investigate alleged bad-faith negotiations in a multimillion-dollar land deal and concerns over the handling of confidential courthouse records in Solano County. Matthew was previously a Dow Jones News Fund Multiplatform Editing Fellow at the San Francisco Chronicle. He was also a reporting intern for POLITICO’s California bureau, focusing on housing and technology policy in the state capitol.

A proud alumnus of The Daily Californian, Matthew wrote and edited at the paper for four years. He started as a general assignment news reporter and finished serving as the 2023-24 managing editor.

Matthew joined the Daily Cal’s Board of Directors in April 2025.
