Grant Marek, Class of 2005
Grant Marek, ’05, is the editor-in-chief of SFGATE, the most read news site on the West Coast. Since his arrival in 2019, SFGATE’s staff has tripled in size as he’s hired journalists in 20 different cities and five different states to help cover news deserts and major cities across the American West. Prior to taking over SFGATE, he held various editorial roles for Thrillist, Yahoo Sports, the San Francisco Examiner, the Desert Sun, the Santa Clarita Valley Signal and Sports Illustrated.
He’s a graduate of UC Berkeley and worked at the Daily Californian from the first day he arrived on campus in 2001 to the day he graduated in 2005, serving as a two-term sports editor from 2003-2004.
